Founder and CEO

Frank Schmitt

As our Founder and CEO, Frank spends his time collaborating with the leadership team, managing relations, developing strategies, managing financials, and assisting with program design, oversight and compliance. As a person in long term recovery, Frank is personally invested in helping others and finds joy in watching others recover. He is also passionate about family work and enjoys providing a space for loved ones to begin the healing process.

Nick Borges, LCSW, LCDC

As our Clinical Director and Chief Operating Officer, Nick ensures that each resident receives personalized care that addresses the underlying factors contributing to their addiction, while providing strategic direction and day-to-day management of Heartwood Recovery. Driven by his passion for helping individuals reclaim their lives from the grips of addiction, Nick is committed to empowering men to realize their full potential and embrace a future filled with hope and resilience.
Director of Admissions and Business Development

Michael Presley

As our Director of Admissions and Business Development, Michael oversees and facilitates the admission process for our clients and their loved ones, and also builds and maintains relationships with industry professionals. Michael is a dedicated professional with over a decade years of experience in the field of substance use disorder treatment. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a profound commitment to helping individuals and families overcome addiction and reclaim their lives.
Director of Nursing

Elizabeth Black, MSN, RN, CNE

As our Director of Nursing, Elizabeth brings years of medical experience working with persons struggling with substance use disorders and other mental health concerns. She oversees Heartwood’s nursing team and ensures that all physical and psychiatric care needs are addressed holistically and thoroughly. Elizabeth has a personal passion for helping others recover from addiction, as she finds ultimate personal and professional fulfillment in watching the light return to their eyes.

Paul Bigley

As our Recovery Program Director, Paul brings a wealth of experience and compassion to his work designing, facilitating, and overseeing our 12-step recovery program.  He has had a profound commitment to the recovery field since 2012.  His journey is defined by a steadfast dedication to supporting individuals on their path to wellness and healing. Paul embodies a holistic approach to helping others thrive.  Balancing a mix of personal development & mindfulness, he continues to make a positive impact in the lives of those he serves.

Chase Finlay, LCDC

As our Lead Clinician, Chase plays a pivotal role in guiding our residents towards recovery. With a focus on individual, group, and family therapy, Chase empowers men to unlock their fullest capability through compassion and persistence. Supporting men as they rediscover themselves after battling addiction has been at the core of Chase’s life ever since he entered the field of recovery. He leads by example, embodying the values of recovery and demonstrating what it means to be a man on the journey to healing. In addition to his clinical work, Chase oversees our clinical team, ensuring integrity, innovation, and maintaining the highest standards of care for each individual who enters Heartwood Recovery Center.

Cori Choate, LCDC

Cori Choate is a dedicated clinician with a profound passion for assisting clients on their journey toward recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. With a compassionate and caring approach, Cori meets clients holistically, recognizing and respecting where they are in their healing process. By providing personalized support and guidance, Cori helps clients find a beginning pathway to recovery in the therapeutic journey, empowering them to navigate challenges and embrace positive change. With a commitment to holistic care and unwavering empathy, Cori is dedicated to fostering healing and transformation in the lives of those struggling with addiction.
Case Manager

Joey Krause, LCDCI

As a Case Manager, Joey’s role is multifaceted, encompassing assessment, assisting the Clinical Team with planning and coordination of aftercare, advocacy, and support to facilitate clients’ recovery journeys and promote the best possible outcomes. Joey recognizes that each client’s journey to recovery is unique and tailors his approach accordingly. He takes into account individual preferences, strengths, and challenges, maintaining a focus on holistic growth and wellness in all areas of clients’ lives. Joey has a compassionate approach and has developed his skills through years of lived experience. In addition, Joey is an LCDC-I and facilitates and documents weekly clinical groups and assists in overseeing Heartwood’s Sober Living.
Case Manager

Ty Davis, LCDCI

As a Case Manager at Heartwood, Ty is actively involved in our residents’ recovery process, both during their stay and in preparing them for their post-treatment transition. In his role, Ty leads clinical groups and provides individual support in various areas such as life skills, education, and employment. Ty’s firsthand experience with recovery highlights the importance of a robust aftercare plan, and our objective is to ensure that every client has a solid foundation in place before they complete their treatment at Heartwood.

Que is a passionate and dedicated recovery nurse with over a decade of experience providing high quality care to her patients.  She is committed to making a positive impact on individuals’ lives during their journey to wellness. She is enthusiastic about her nursing profession and grateful for the opportunity to help others every day.

Shawn Livingston

As our Director of Health and Wellness and Outreach Specialist, Shawn oversees our fitness program and trainers, and he connects with colleagues outside of Heartwood to discuss and promote our program.  Shawn’s passion for fitness stems from the positive impact it’s had in his own life and recovery.  Shawn helps our clients connect mind, body, and spirit in an educational and motivational setting.

As our Alumni Coordinator, Parker demonstrates unwavering dedication to supporting Heartwood graduates with empathy and professionalism. With a wealth of experience in community building spanning several years, Parker guides individuals through the complexities of early sobriety, providing assistance in navigating this critical phase. Recognizing the importance of fostering a balanced and fulfilling lifestyle in recovery, Parker actively encourages individuals to embrace joy and growth, leveraging the foundation established during their stay here at Heartwood Recovery.

As our Recovery Advocate Manager, Zane demonstrates a steadfast commitment to assisting individuals as they work towards sobriety and overall health.  Drawing from his own experiences with addiction, Zane is passionate about offering guidance and empowering others to lead healthier, more fulfilling lives.  When he’s not working, Zane enjoys spending time with his pitbull, attending live music events, and exploring various fitness activities.

Anthony Wadsworth

As our Executive Chef, Anthony brings the passion of recovery from addiction, and the love of cooking to Heartwood‘s kitchen. His 30+ years of culinary arts brings a combination of healthy and satisfying meals to the men and staff at Heartwood Recovery. Working together with a licensed dietitian and personal trainer, the men at Heartwood enjoy balanced meals made with love.
