BLAKE

“Heartwood provided me the opportunity to keep my family, and the staff showed me what it looks like to do that.”

Blake

Three years ago, Blake’s dependency on alcohol and narcotics began causing serious issues in his marriage and with his health. Fearing for her future with their toddler and infant, Blake’s wife, Allison, encouraged him to find recovery by entering Heartwood. Although he was initially reluctant, Blake knew he had a lot to lose and worked hard to stay engaged in the program. “The clinicians here helped me identify the root causes of my addiction and give me coping skills. The fellowship allows me to keep fighting,” said Blake. As part of his treatment, Blake and Allison worked closely with Nick Borges to engage in couples therapy and harness strong communication tools.  “From the very beginning, I was able to not worry about where he was. The peace I got knowing that he was at an incredible place getting amazing care allowed me to focus on my toddler and newborn. I love that this is a small place with dedicated staff,” said Allison. Blake is back with his family and is celebrating six months of sobriety.

KELVIN

“Heartwood gave me the tools to save my life.”

Kelvin

Prior to seeking treatment, Kelvin sought external validation through substance abuse and crime. “I was the angriest person in the room. I didn’t understand love,” said Kelvin. Although he had never been to a treatment center and was uncomfortable with the level of vulnerability asked of him, he pushed forward. “During a process group led by Chase Finlay, a chip fell off my hard exterior, and I really understood what they were doing for me here,” said Kelvin. He’ll celebrate nine months of sobriety on July 30.

RYAN

“All the tough feelings that I had to deal with as his wife, I would do 100 times over again to have the husband I have now.”

Jessie (Ryan’s wife)

Ryan spent the first part of his life feeling insecure, lying, manipulating and drinking heavily. “I was great at burning bridges,” said Ryan. After the sudden loss of his father, his drinking became untenable for his marriage. Ryan made the choice to seek treatment at Heartwood with the support of Jessie, his wife. “Now, I’m a better communicator. I’m more honest. My life is full,” said Ryan. Although it was difficult for Ryan and Jessie to be separated during his stay at Heartwood, Jessie knew he was where he needed to be. “The staff connected with me throughout the process. I knew he was in good hands. I could see the shift,” said Jessie. Today, Ryan is approaching seven months of sobriety.
