Outpatient Program (OP) for Men in Austin, Texas
Heartwood Recovery’s Outpatient Program (OP) gives men in Austin a way to keep building their recovery while they return to work, school, and family life. It’s the most flexible level in our continuum — designed for men in stable early recovery who have a foundation of sobriety and are ready to practice their recovery skills while living independently. Based at our South Austin facility, OP keeps you clinically connected and accountable without full-day programming.
Recovery Support That Fits Your Life
OP combines weekly group therapy, individual counseling, relapse-prevention planning, family support, and 12-Step immersion to help men hold their momentum while reintegrating into daily life. Whether you’re stepping down from our PHP or IOP, or you’ve completed treatment elsewhere and want ongoing accountability close to home, our outpatient program delivers the clinical connection that protects long-term recovery. The schedule is consistent; your treatment plan is individualized.
Where OP Fits in Our Levels of Care
Heartwood offers a full continuum under one provider, so you can step down at a pace that matches your progress instead of switching centers each time your needs change. Outpatient is the lowest-intensity clinical level — the bridge between structured treatment and fully independent recovery.

What We Treat in Outpatient
Outpatient care at Heartwood supports men recovering from a range of substance use disorders. Many men also carry a co-occurring mental health condition, which we treat alongside the addiction rather than separately.
Integrated Mental Health & Dual Diagnosis Support
Depression, anxiety, trauma, and other mental health conditions frequently sit underneath substance use — and treating one without the other is a leading driver of relapse. Men in our outpatient program have access to integrated, dual-diagnosis-informed care so the underlying condition is addressed alongside recovery, not left for later.
Benefits of Outpatient Treatment
Structure + Flexibility
Outpatient programs provide the clinical structure necessary for recovery success while allowing flexibility to maintain work, school, family responsibilities, and other aspects of daily life. This balance helps men apply recovery tools in real-world situations.
Accountability
Regular clinical contact, group attendance, and drug testing create accountability that supports sobriety. Men stay connected to their treatment team and peers even as they increase independence.
Clinical Depth
Both PHP and OP at Heartwood Recovery offer more clinical support than standard outpatient programs. Our commitment to individualized care, trauma-informed treatment, and comprehensive services ensures men receive the depth of support necessary for lasting change.
Male-Specific Community
Gender-specific programming creates space for authentic connection and vulnerability. Men work through issues specific to male experiences and build brotherhood with others who understand their journey.
Connection to Austin Recovery
Our outpatient programs integrate clients into Austin's robust recovery community through regular attendance at local meetings, connection with sponsors, and involvement with our alumni network. These relationships extend far beyond the treatment program.

Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between OP and IOP? Intensive Outpatient (IOP) meets more often each week and delivers more clinical hours, making it a fit for men who need more structure. Outpatient (OP) is the lighter, step-down level — typically weekly groups and individual sessions — for men in stable early recovery who are managing work, school, or family. Many men move from IOP to OP as they gain independence.
How long does outpatient rehab last? It varies by person. OP is designed to flex with your progress — some men stay for a couple of months, others continue longer as a maintenance and accountability layer. Your clinician reviews your plan regularly and adjusts the timeline to your needs.
Can I keep working or going to school during outpatient treatment? Yes — that’s the point of OP. The schedule is built so you can maintain employment, classes, and family responsibilities while staying clinically connected.
Does insurance cover outpatient rehab at Heartwood? Most private insurance covers addiction treatment. Heartwood is in-network with several major carriers and also works with out-of-network benefits. The fastest way to know your coverage is a free insurance verification.
Do you treat co-occurring mental health conditions in outpatient? Yes. Many men in OP are also managing depression, anxiety, or trauma. We provide dual-diagnosis-informed care so the underlying condition is treated alongside the substance use.
Is Heartwood’s outpatient program only for men? Yes. Heartwood is a men’s-only provider, and our outpatient program offers gender-specific groups and programming throughout.
Do I have to complete residential or PHP before starting OP? Not necessarily. OP fits men stepping down from a higher level of care and men in stable early recovery who completed treatment elsewhere. During your assessment, a clinician will recommend the level that’s right for you.
Where is your outpatient program located? At our South Austin facility at 6404 Ridge Oak Rd, Austin, TX 78749, serving South Austin and the surrounding communities.
